Due to an ever increasing demand we have been looking at ways in which we can improve our service for our patients.
Traditionally our patients have been able to book in for ‘on the day’ appointments.
Our receptionists would book in as many patients as possible for these appointments but even though medical emergencies will always be seen, it is not always possible to book in for a non-emergency ‘on the day’ appointment.
We appreciate that this is not always convenient for our patients and we believe that the new triage service will help to improve this issue.
The triage service will mean that when a patient calls for an ‘on the day’ appointment the reception team will book them in for a telephone call with their own doctor for the same morning. The doctor will then call the patient back – usually before 10.30am and assess the patient’s problem. The doctor will then book the patient in for either a same day appointment where needed, a routine appointment for another day or in some cases the doctor may be able to advise the patient over the phone without the need for an appointment.
If a patient’s doctor is away, the patient will be offered a triage appointment with our nurse prescriber, Alison, our Paramedic Practitioner or with another doctor.
We appreciate that this is something quite different from what you are used to but we believe that by offering a triage service, we are able to offer a better service to our patients. The new triage service will mean that every patient calling for an ‘on the day’ appointment will be able to communicate with their own doctor the same day.
Some of our GPs are already using this new service and the others will be starting soon. Our reception team will be able to advise you when you call.
Our routine, prebookable appointments remain unchanged and you are still able to book in for appointments in advance.
