Repeat Prescriptionsblue_yellow

Many patients require regular medication for long-term or recurring conditions. Doctors aim to review these on a regular basis, but allow patients to request items without being seen.  Regularly prescribed items appear on a list on the right hand side of the prescription, and this re-order list can be used to obtain further prescriptions in future, by ticking the ones required.

Requests for a repeat of previously issued prescriptions as agreed with your doctor can be made in one of the following ways:

  • if you are registered to use our online 'Patient Access' service you can order your prescriptions by clicking here or the button on the home page
  • by handing in the re-order slips at reception, itemising those drugs required
  • by completing one of the request slips kept in reception
  • by fax (01252 370751) specifying the items clearly *
  • by email, following this link  to: NEHCCG.MilestoneSurgery-scripts@nhs.net * - if this link does not work please copy and paste the link within your own email.
  • * N.B  To make it clear what is required, you must indicate your name, date of birth and address, plus the exact items with name, dose, and any reference number. Please make one email request for each patient, as this is then placed with that person's records.

This email is only used for repeat prescription requests, and is not a way to contact the practice for other purposes, such as advice or passing on information, so we will not respond to queries.

Unfortunately we do not take requests for prescriptions over the telephone. This is because errors can be made so easily which could seriously affect your health.

As we authorise repeats of what has been issued before we are not able to modify the request without discussing this with the patient first. Usually prescriptions are given for 1 - 2 months of medication.  For contraceptive pills we may issue a 6 month prescription, provided the patient is seen once a year.

Collections

We receive about 200 requests each day!

If you have more than 7 days of medication left, your request may be rejected as too soon. If you are making an early request, please provide us with a reason.
It takes three working days to process and check prescriptions, therefore if such a request is handed in on Thursday afternoon, please do not expect it to be ready until late Tuesday or Wednesday, as Saturday and Sunday are not normal working days.

Items that are Acute medications and/or items not on your repeat list can only be issued by your GP. Please allow an extra 1 day to process.
If you order through a pharmacy, this process will take longer as they have to prepare the request, drop it into the surgery and collect the prescription three working days later.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or clinical pharmacist at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
